Dido is a British singer-songwriter who debuted “Life for Rent” in 2003 as the follow-up single to her second studio album of the same name. Dido Armstrong and her brother Rollo Armstrong wrote the tune.

The song “Life for Rent” is about the idea that everything in life is ephemeral, including relationships and material belongings, and the lyrics express a desire for freedom and independence. The chorus of the song reads: “I’m putting my past behind me and moving to where my body and spirit belong.

I’ll be successful in my current life.”

Dido sings the song in a variety of settings, including a desolate street and a beach at dusk, in the song’s music video. Commercially, “Life for Rent” was successful; it made it to the top ten in a number of nations, including the UK, Australia, and Canada.
